RNLI - Lifeboat Training Experience Launch
On Friday 14th September, the RNLI launched its new Lifeboat Training
Experience with the help of record-breaking round the world yachtswomen
Dee Caffari MBE; who was the first to try out the new experience at
Southampton Boat Show.
The unit was built on a Peugeot Boxer cab and is 5.8m in length. The
unit has been specially customised to give the impression of a lifeboat
and has porthole style windows and custom shaped doors. The interior is
mainly set out for the simulator effect and has the main dashboard and
projector to display the visuals onto the screens.
The RNLI’s new experience was developed in consultation with volunteer
lifeboat crew from Padstow lifeboat station; it simulates the
experience of a rescue as witnessed through the eyes of a volunteer
lifeboat crew member from the bridge of a Tamar all-weather lifeboat.
